Alabama has a brand new Governor tonight. Robert Bentley was sworn in today in Montgomery, Alabama as Alabama's 53rd governor.
In his Inaugural speech, Governor Bentley again promised to keep his word that he would not accept a salary until Alabama is fully employed.

HAMILTON - Early morning fire claims the life of two Hamilton residents and leaves two in critical condition in two Birmingham hospitals.
Devon Sellman, age 16, and Landon Sellman, age 6, lost their lives in the blaze. Niel Sellman, age 43, and Ashton Sellman, age 12, were transported to Birmingham hospitals in critical condition. Elaine Rosenburg escaped the fire with few injuries and has been released from the hospital.
A candle light vigil is planned for Wednesday, January 19 from 6:30pm - 9:30pm in front of the Sellman home located at 335 4th Ave SW, Hamilton, AL.

GOBBLER'S KNOB, Punxsutawney, PA -- The bucktoothed rodent known in these parts as Punxsutawney Phil failed to see his shadow this morning, which means, if you believe in this sort of thing, winter will be short and pleasant springtime weather is right around the corner!

Hamilton, AL. - During the recent snow in Hamilton, Alabama, I came across these tracks in the yard. I couldn't resist sharing these with my readers.
If you double click on the picture, you will find that one set of tracks belong to a bird and the other set belongs to a cat! If you will do the same for the one below, you will see the Cat tracks ambling on along around the back house.
It just seemed odd that we look at our yards every day and take for granted the little animals that come and go across them.
Just think how the paths cross but neither the cat nor the bird seemed to be aware of the other. Of course, they didn't happen at the same point in time...or the inevitable would have happened...the cat would have had a meal and we would have found feathers instead of tracks!
They both walked away, the feral Cat on the hunt, and the two birds as well. (Their tracts differ, one hops and one runs, putting one foot ahead of the other.)
Each oblivious of the other. I can tell this because the tracks of the Cat never waver, they just proceed along the edge of the house and casually turn to the left around the house.
I thought, "this was a happy ending!" I hope you thought so too!

Empty Flagpole! February 14, 2011 Sad Valentine's Present!
Hamilton, AL - This was the former site of our National Guard Armory in Hamilton. If you look to the left of the picture, (Double Click) you will see the Flagpole, which stands by the walkway, is empty now and the building is gone, demolished by men and machines.
One of, if not the oldest National Guard Armory buildings in the state has been demolished. It is a sad day for most Hamiltonians and others too who came from different parts of Alabama to serve in this building.
I do not claim to be much of a writer but I can only say how I feel about this situation.
It has only been a few months since we rushed up to the Armory to help welcome home our Soldiers who had come back after being gone for so long. That was a happy day!
There have been many more days like that, where loved ones who remained at home had rushed to the Armory to welcome home troops who had been in foreign lands for too long...But now, our Armory is gone and all we have left is memories.
I am sure there are some who remember having their Prom there (because we didn't have even one Gym back then). There were also birthday parties and dances and many more good times there.

Birmingham, AL - Bomb Squad called in for suspicious package Sunday! Airport shut down and evacuated.
UPDATE:
All is back to normal on Monday, February 28th as we went to pick someone up at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport.

THIS YEAR’S
JERRY BROWN ARTS FESTIVAL
Hamilton, Ala. – The popular Jerry Brown Arts Festival in its ninth year will have a new uniqueness to it. In addition to the 65 artists who have been selected to participate, this year’s festival will take place inside the newly renovated airport hangar at the Marion County Airport, 550 Airport Road in Hamilton, on Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6.
